Colorful Pastel Art

I found some art done with pastels and colored pencils. I think it's a beautiful display of color and abstract shape!

Olympic Nail Art!

So here is some nail art I did for the Winter Olympics! I wanted to post this because this is not commonly thought of as a form of art, but it's probably the one I do most frequently, as I try to do different nail art each week! I love the Olympics and look forward to them whenever they come around. I think they represent just how much people can do! The dedication of the athletes is amazing... I can't even fathom practicing as much as they do!

Anyways, I did this in about half an hour, wasn't too difficult. The hardest part was just keeping my hand steady enough to do the numbers and letters, which I did with a striper brush. I also did a snowflake on the bottom thumbnail, but it's not too clear in this picture. I finished off the top hand with a silver and blue gradient done by striping those colors onto a sponge and stamping it on the ends.

Crayon Crazy

So here's another excellent example of beautiful art I found on the Internet. This gorgeous eye was drawn with crayon, which I find to be an interesting medium for creating work as detailed as this. I've done something similar before, drawing realistic portraits with crayon. I think it's fun to create fine art with unconventional mediums!

Disco Alarm Clock!

     This piece was very fun to make. I made it for a prompt from this site. It allows you to spin a series of three wheels which together give you a random theme, adjective, and subject. I got the theme of Invention, the adjective disco and the subject alarm clock, and sort of made this model of what I would consider a disco alarm clock. I mean, wouldn't it be fun to wake up to a disco party?
     So, I started off by thinking out my color scheme and style. I wanted to keep the style of the clock minimalistic so that focus would be led more to the disco lights in the center. I used the shape tool to construct the parts of the alarm clock and the lights, and the type tool to make the numbers.I wanted to convey what I saw in my head, which was the lights shining and rotating around the center, so I used the flare tool to give each light a bit of a glare. I made the background black to emphasize the white of the clock, the contrast of the colors, and make the light paths visible.

Optical Abstract

I like how this piece uses various colors and shapes to overlap and create a pattern. Like with many optical art style pieces, there are several images you could see in this. I see a letter 'X', a square in the middle, and various large triangles.

The Heart of the Christmas Spirit

Pattern!

      

    This was a 'slam' assignment or, in other words, something that is done quickly and to the best of your ability. This design was done using the word 'pattern' as inspiration in Adobe Illustrator. I knew that there were patterns already pre-programmed for use, so my main consideration was where to put them, and how to make them interesting and appealing.

     I began to use the shape tool to draw one large rectangle, and then smaller ones inside of it, filling each with a different pattern and trying to keep a somewhat harmonious/cohesive color scheme. Then, to contrast the pure bright patterns I created various shapes in black and white and arranged them on the patterns. Then, to add some final interest, I used the flare tool to add the white spots in the middle and the darker ones behind the patterns.
